The easy riding options
Holt Explorer. A trip to the North Norfolk Railway station at Holt
(4 miles there and back) and on to the Georgian market town and its country
park (8 miles there and back). Traffic-free to the station then quiet
back lanes into Holt.
On park Puzzle-it-Out ride. A fun 5-mile ride that stays within the
grounds of Kelling Heath Holiday Park. It’s signed, but you have
to keep your eyes peeled so you don’t miss any turnings!!!
Huff & Puff with the North Norfolk Railway. A full day out. A circular
trip combining a largely traffic-free ride of 5.5 miles with a journey
on the North Norfolk Railway from Sheringham to Holt. Special price deal
exclusive to cycle hirers.
Time for Tea+Garden Centre. A quick hop on this 3.5-mile circular ride
(a mix of tracks and quiet lanes) to the local Emcy garden centre and
tearoom.
Time for Tea+Art. A memorable visit to the unusual tearoom in the village
of Kelling. It also sells second-hand books, collectables, and art! A
5.5-mile circular trip on tracks and quiet lanes (with one moderate hill).
Sheringham Park Easy Rider. A flat and traffic-free excursion into the grounds of the National Trust's Sheringham Park (where young riders can enjoy the free loan of a Tracker Pack to get the most out of the park). An out-and-back route of 4.5 miles, or an optional circular ride of 5.5 miles that includes a visit to the Victorian Weybourne Station.
Bit more of a challenge?
High Point & Castle Explorer. A 10-mile
trip on quiet lanes to almost the highest point in Norfolk (a truly staggering
275 feet!) and the atmospheric ruins of Baconsthorpe Castle. Plus options
to visit two great pubs... and a quick strike on Beckham Palace!!! Don’t
miss it (it’s not too hilly).
Wiveton, Cley & Glandford Explorer. A mostly quiet lanes ride that
follows a 13-mile circular route. Two great pubs in Wiveton and Cley,
and the unusual Shell Museum and river ford in Glandford. Option to visit
Letheringsett Mill. Couple of moderate uphills, but you can always walk.
Kelling Coastal Explorer. Fascinating off-road and quiet lanes 9-mile
route that visits the coast and the village of Salthouse (the annual
summer art show in the church is a must). Great journey, great views,
choice of refreshments (try fish and chips on the beach). Some rougher
off-road stretches but these are short and easily walked. Short but sharp
hill out of Salthouse (but great sea views and good for the heart!).
Not suited to child seats or tag cycles.
Sheringham Park & Town Explorer. A mix of tracks and quiet lanes
on this exploration to the National Trust’s Sheringham Park (visit
the 40-foot viewing tower), the village of Upper Sheringham, and on into
Sheringham itself if you wish. An out-and-back 8-mile trip if you do
the whole ride, or stop in the park for a picnic (or a nearby pub). Steady
uphill on parts of the return journey.
Sheringham Priory Maze & Gardens Explorer. A 2-mile extension to
the Sheringham Park ride. It travels back streets and tracks to just
beyond the town to visit the ruins of Beeston Priory, and the next door
Priory Gardens Tearoom and Maze.
A Pig of a Ride. Not quite as bad as it sounds, but a fun ride that ends up in the Three Pigs public house in the hamlet of Edgefield (run by the people who own the Byfords cake shop and tearoom in Holt). Uses a mix of traffic-free trails and quiet lanes.
And now the big ones!
Cromer Challenge. A twisting, turning, and
totally absorbing mostly off-road ride that travels to Sheringham then
onwards to Cromer and its famous pier. 19 miles there and back (22 miles
if you return by the Norfolk Coast Cycleway - which includes a visit
to the National Trust’s Felbrigg Hall). Not suited to child seats
or tag cycles. Some hard sections. You’ll love us or hate us for this one!
